CLERGY & STAFF
Sacred Heart Parish is part of the Diocese of Phoenix, but has been administered by the Claretian Missionaries of the Immaculate Heart of Mary since 1915. In addition to many talented lay persons, we are also blessed to have two sisters of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM), United States Province, who very generously serve our parish.

Fr. Art has been pastor of Sacred Heart Parish since August 15, 2009, joining our family on the Feast of the Assumption.
Fr. Art has also taken to heart Pope Benedict XVI's invitation to the world's priests on World Communications Day 2010 to use digital media in their ministry.
"Thanks to the new media, those involved in preaching and catechizing can now reach individuals and entire communities on every continent using words, sounds and images, it said." (Read more...)
In that spirit, Fr. Art can now be found on Facebook, spreading the Good News of Jesus.

1. Who is your Patron/Confirmation Saint & why?
My Confirmation Saint is St. Anthony Claret, not only because he is the founder of my religious family, but because of his passion for sharing the Word of God with everyone. His whole life as a priest was dedicated to this.
2. What is your favorite Bible verse(s) and/or "Saintly" quote and why?
My favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 15:16, “I devoured Your words when they came. They were my happiness and I felt full of joy when You made Your name rest upon me.” I love this verse because it expresses the joy I feel when I dive into the Scriptures and explore them to their depths. That joy is even greater when I get to share what I have found with others when I proclaim the Word at Mass.
3. What is your favorite hymn(s)/Christian song(s) and why?
My favorite hymn is “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.” I love the story of Thomas Dorsey, and how it came to be that he wrote this hymn -
Click to hear the story of why Thomas Dorsey wrote this hymn. - When I am sad and feel lost this hymn has always given me great comfort. It speaks to my heart when I am hurting.
Watch Dr. Dorsey, himself, sing his hymn. This was also Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s favorite hymn.
4. Give one (of many!) reason why you enjoy Sacred Heart Parish.
The main reason why I love being at Sacred Heart is the people that I get to serve and work with here. Over the years they have humbled me with their love and inspired me with their faith. God touches me with His Grace through them dozens of times each day from the children in the school to the elderly in the rest homes. I especially appreciate the staff and volunteers who I get to work with, they make my ministry here at Sacred Heart a pure joy.
Fr. Daryl takes his Final Vows as a Claretian (Claretian Missionaries of the Immaculate Heart of Mary).

1. Who is your Patron/Confirmation Saint & why?
I did not pick a Confirmation Saint at the time of my Confirmation, because I was not really aware of the tradition of picking a Saint. For many years now, I have had a great love for Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta. She is a woman that inspires me to serve the Lord with all my heart. I want to serve without fear of rejection. I want to speak the Word of God without hesitation. I want to be more and more like Mother every day. All Glory to God!!!
2. What is your favorite Bible verse(s) and/or "Saintly" quote and why?
“If you are what you should be, you will set the world on fire.” - St. Catherine of Siena. I desire to be what God has planned for me and I would love nothing more that to set the world ablaze with God’s plan for me. There is great freedom in working within God’s plan for my life.
3. What is your favorite hymn(s)/Christian song(s) and why?
Christ Is Risen by Matt Maher. I love the entire song. It is the ultimate rally song for our Faith. It is my call to come awake. The part that blows me away every time is the verse: “O death where is your sting, O hell where is your victory, O Church come stand in the light.” I want to stand in the light!!!
4. Give one (of many!) reason why you enjoy Sacred Heart Parish.
Sacred Heart Parish has been the only parish I have known all my life. It is my home. It is the parish where I was Baptized, Confirmed, received my First Communion, and married my beautiful wife. Sacred Heart Parish is where I met the three great loves of my life, my wife, Jesus, and His mother. Sacred Heart has given me brothers and sisters in the Lord that I love for their kindness and support.

1. Who is your Patron/Confirmation Saint & why?
Mary Magdalene, because she is the Apostle to the Apostles and the first to witness the Resurrection - a woman - which is very significant to me.
2. What is your favorite Bible verse(s) and/or "Saintly" quote and why?
"Let us be who we are, and be that well, so as to honor the Master Worker, whose handiwork we are." - St. Francis de Sales
3. What is your favorite hymn(s)/Christian song(s) and why?
I like the Ave Maria because it is prayer and song simultaneously. I think that is a beautiful way to thank God.
4. Give one (of many!) reason why you enjoy Sacred Heart Parish.
I enjoy Sacred Heart Parish because of all the different people in the community and different things that are happening. The diversity always keeps me curious and engaged.
Beverly Aviles - Development Director, Sacred Heart School

1. Who is your Patron/Confirmation Saint & why?
I chose St. Francis of Assisi as my Patron Saint because he loves animals and his feast day is near my birthday. As an adult, he became more important to me because of his devotion to a life of poverty; of doing without.
2. What is your favorite Bible verse(s) and/or "Saintly" quote and why?
Philippians 4:7 - "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will
guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - I like this verse because I worry too much...
"Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls." ~ Mother Teresa - This is why I work at a Catholic School!
3. What is your favorite hymn(s)/Christian song(s) and why?
Be Not Afraid and all Christmas Carols
4. Give one (of many!) reason why you enjoy Sacred Heart Parish.
I appreciate the diversity of this parish - it is why this parish is successful (well, that and Christ of course!).
Gene Murphy - Parish Business Manager

I am looking forward to my new position as Parish Manager at Sacred Heart Church. I have 30 years of management experience – 15 years at Ben Franklin Crafts in Prescott. I am very happy to be returning to Prescott as a member of the Sacred Heart staff. My family and I lived in Prescott from 1989-2006, and Sacred Heart was a large part of our family life. From 1999 – 2004. I was the director of Brick by Brick Ministry, which built a Catholic Church and medical clinic for the needy people of Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. While living in Cave Creek, I have been involved with St. Vincent de Paul at St. Mark‘s Parish.
My wife, Jana, is a teacher at Our Lady of Joy School in Carefree. We have two grown sons, Ryan (25) and Kyle (21). Ryan is a recent graduate of the University of Arizona and he is currently working as a teacher in a Catholic orphanage in Honduras. Kyle is presently serving in the United State Navy in San Diego.
Gene will begin his new position on Monday, March 15, 2010. Please give him a warm welcome.
