A Children's Ministry of Sacred Heart

Welcome

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a unique and beautiful approach to religious formation for children, rooted in the Bible, the Liturgy of the Church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. At Sacred Heart, we are blessed to offer this deeply spiritual program for our youngest parishioners to experience the love of the Good Shepherd and grow in their relationship with God.

Children gather in a specially prepared environment called the Atrium, which is more like a chapel than a classroom. Here, they encounter age-appropriate materials that invite prayer, reflection, and hands-on exploration of the faith.

Our Mission

The mission of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is to nurture the religious potential of the child in a sacred and peaceful environment. We seek to:

  • Help the child fall in love with God through the message of Jesus.

  • Encourage a life of prayer and contemplation.

  • Foster a deep relationship with the Good Shepherd, who calls each one of us by name.

Program Levels

Our CGS program is divided into three levels, based on the developmental needs of the child:

Level I (Ages 3–6)

Children encounter the Good Shepherd, explore the Mass, and engage in hands-on activities that build reverence and concentration.

Level II (Ages 6–9 - SACRAMENTAL pREP)

Children explore parables, moral choices, and the sacraments with greater depth, building on their personal relationship with God.

Level III (Ages 9–12)

Older children reflect on salvation history, Church tradition, and the call to live their faith in daily life.

Session Times

All sessions are held in the Atrium, located by the Youth Ministry Garage

What Families Are Saying

“The Sacred Heart CGS Atrium gives my children hands on learning about the Catholic Faith; a space to learn quietly to know God and develop friendships with peers” – Christianna Scott
The Atrium provides a place where prayer and silence become the child's path to Jesus, while simple presentations and quiet work help keep them on this path." - Judy Carlisi, CGS Catechist
